Esplanade Lagoon Pool, Cairns

4.6
Esplanade Lagoon Pool offers one of the best places to beat the Cairns heat. Look out on the Barrier Reef and Trinity inlet from this 4,800 sq m (51,666 sq ft) saltwater lagoon. The lagoon water is saltwater from the inlet run through a filtration system. The sandy perimeter provides material for sand castles, and kids can wade in the lagoon's shallow water. • Overcast and the wind is not so good because it's not artificial lagoon here, remember? The not-so-amazing place than I thought it was not. Public water is a little more design stylish swimming pool that, and anyone can use the barbecue facilities in addition to the great attraction that felt the nails. Toilet and shower didn't not so clean. Rather, it is more I think it's good in Brisbane

  • When on holidays it's great to go to places that are free for a change. This was awesome for the kids. We spent 3hrs swimming and relaxing on the waterfront. Cairns definitely needs a place like this....  more »
  • A week in the Bronx, almost every day to swim, this is a man-made beach in the sea, the environment and the real beach is not the same, but even if you do not know how to swim is not dangerous

  • A lovely swimming pool by the sea... The views are great. Very kid friendly. Not very deep. U can sit in or outside the pool if u don't want to swim. Great time for the entire family. Nice shower and changing room facilities. Few limited lockers to keep your belongings but it gets over fast.
  • Love this lagoon, so far best I've been in Australia. Safe busy and well lifeguarded The lifeguards are proactive and it is ideally located for a seaside town without a real genuine beach. There is also grassy areas and BBQ places surrounding. Sometimes there is live music around the area. Top notch lagoon. Fee changing rooms and lockers.
  • We were here for 3 days and had a great time, the lagoon was great opens early daily apart from Wednesday its 12pm as they were cleaning the pool. We used the public bbq which was free, you're just asked to keep the area as clean as possible. Would love to visit again
  • it's a man-made lagoon, but hey, it's awesome. its huge so you don't feel like you're always next to other people. there's a kids area so you're not surrounded by kids if you don't want to, either. pretty clean. this area is great since the beaches at cairns are non-existent. you can just chill here all day and in between meals which are all nearby.
  • Great wading pool. Amazing views out to sea. Very safe for young kids with shallow areas and lifeguards on duty. Very clean. Close to shops and the Cairns Esplanade.

Where to stay in Cairns

Though Cairns seems to offer an endless selection of cozy rooms, most budget-friendly options remain fully booked through the high season, stretching from June to September. Reserve early if you want a hotel room packed with amenities, or look for alternative lodgings in the city's smaller inns. As the backpacker capital of northern Queensland, Cairns features dozens of economical hostels providing comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. For something far more luxurious, look for centrally located rental apartments with spacious rooms and harbor views.
