A visit to Green Island will bring you to the tropical paradise on the Great Barrier Reef. Just 27 km (17 mi) offshore from Cairns, this small, sandy island formed on the surface of a coral reef. Snorkel and dive in the cool waters over colorful coral and sealife. Go on a glass-bottom boat or semisubmerged submarine to see the underwater views of starfish, turtles, shells, and fish. Follow the boardwalk through the thick, emerald rainforest to reach the crocodile farm. Rent a locker for your belongings at the island, so that you can explore the place without worry. • This place is amazing, has so many activities to do like snorkelling. You get the best view of the Great Barrier Reef and you can see some of the most pretty fish there. There was a good variety of food but not enough bins. It’s best to bring a cover for rubbish.
  • The island is packed with activities (pool, shops, restaurants, etc) and has a beautiful beach. Definitely would come back again
  • It's a beautiful island, but.. * It is very busy * The dive shop is ok, but not great. I think more could be done to get the divers to watch out for the corals. * The staff is generally not very informed or friendly. For diving I would not recommend it, it would be better to do a day trip to the reef.
  • Best snorkeling for beginners and in reasonable price for it with lot of activities!
  • Green Island is fantastic ... went for a day trip. Have stayed at fitzroy but i have to say it (green island) may not look as posh but the staff were waaay friendlier and very helpful. Lots of day tripping tourists (you are one of them!) but there is always heaps of room to spread out and everyone is just enjoying themselves. You need gold coins to hire a locker but having a locker is great. Snorkelling is awesome especially along the jetty. Island has heaps of shade even on the beaches so plenty of respite from the sun. Food was great and priced as you'd expect for an island. Highly recommend.

Where to stay in Cairns

Though Cairns seems to offer an endless selection of cozy rooms, most budget-friendly options remain fully booked through the high season, stretching from June to September. Reserve early if you want a hotel room packed with amenities, or look for alternative lodgings in the city's smaller inns. As the backpacker capital of northern Queensland, Cairns features dozens of economical hostels providing comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. For something far more luxurious, look for centrally located rental apartments with spacious rooms and harbor views.
