  • This was part of our day tour which included Mona. This is a heritage site that was interesting allowing us to see what we cant see now. The place also kept it's original look and feel too.  more »
  • Just a brief 2-3km walk along a wonderful linear park from the Hobart CBD, this historic site shocked us. Over half of Australia's female convicts were sent here to work and produce goods for sale, bu...  more »
  • A very enlightening place. I have read many novels on the convicts but this tour gave a new twist to the story. Lots of bits that no one mentions. The hardship and the real agenda behind the mass expo...  more »

  • The guided tour was great - our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She was also happy to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend the tour, as it provides a lot of historical information on the Factory, and paints an accurate picture of what life would have been like for the incarcerated women. "Her Story" was fantastic. It adds an emotional layer to the history of the Factory. I recommend both tours.
  • Very sad. Also felt that as I had paid for a tour there I should've been able to see it all but was prevented from seeing some of it (The matrons home) and nothing was explained. Something that looked like original footings in front of the reception area was not signed. So whatever it was remains a mystery to me. Some signage saying what the rooms once were was good but I would have liked more information.
  • This is really worth a visit. I think it might have been underwhelming if we hadn't paid for a tour though. Shelly was our tour guide and her passion for the place and its history made it come alive. Would highly recommend but definitely pay for a tour.
  • I took the Heritage Tour, and our guide John, is one of the best tour guides I ever joined with! Without the tour, you won't be able to take in the full scope of the brutal stories that took place in this female prison. I was hooked by the guided talk from start to finish. I really recommend taking the tour and not just taking the entrance pass. It was worth it!
  • We did a guided tour and were amazed how passionate and knowledgeable our guide was. Later we were impressed again as we did the theatre show "Her Story" performed by two actors playing the role of three people. Highly recommend both.
