Salamanca Market, Hobart

4.3
Each Saturday, Salamanca Market comes to life with dozens of stalls selling the region's best food, crafts, and souvenirs. Situated in front of large sandstone warehouses that have been converted into a maze of craftspeople's shops and restaurants, the market has been a major tourist attraction for decades. It's also a popular weekend meeting place for local families with kids. The warehouses were built in the 19th century to service the whaling industry. Today the market sells a variety of locally made products at inexpensive prices. This sprawling historic district offers opportunities to shop for gifts, drop by popular eateries, and visit the area's art galleries, which exhibit and sell works by local artists. • Great market with all different shop holders. The fruit was delicious and fresh off the tree. You need to get their early 8am and two hours will see you through. Great places to have breakfast.  more »

  • I'm really not a market person, so 3 is a high rating from me. As these things go, I'd say it's amazing, I just don't like tying to navigate the crowds. A kilometer long from footpath to footpath, you'll find just about everything here. Located between the wharf and Battery Point, the street is lined on one side by a leafy park and the other by a good number of pretty fantastic eateries. If you love markets, this is a must do for you.
  • Great market. Great variety of produce, wares and food. Good street entertainment and the green space for relaxing and eating is generous. Way too crowded through the stalls to get about easily and to stop and shop
  • What a fantastic markets. This has everything for everyone. We went here with 9 blokes in their mid 30s and thoroughly enjoyed it although there were hundreds of older people checking out the stalls. It has alot of homemade type of stands from local producers/makers. Great way to invest in the local Hobart community. Lots of places to eat and well positioned in the heart of town. Will go again.
  • Although it was poring down with rain we still enjoyed the market. Lots of original booths with art and creative works. Plenty of food available and a shopping mall nearby. Paid parking just opposite of the market and toilet facilities are close to the shopping mall just off a side street of the market.
  • The Salamanca market only open once a week on Saturday, this long and bustling market sells so many local produce and interesting products; ranging from local produce butter, homemade honey, vodka, Gin, cookies, chocolate (you name it and they have it) ... and etc that are environmentally friendly and unique. It has three rows of stalls and close to 300 stalls and next to Hobart waterfront. You can park your car at the nearby public car park at A$12 for the whole day. If you are a tourist, you probably would need to spent approximately 2 hours here to complete your visit here.
