Coogee Beach, Sydney

4.6
#3 of 24 in Beaches in Sydney
Second only to Bondi in popularity, Coogee Beach is suitable for swimming, relaxing in the sun, and picnicking. Nearby is a busy shopping and dining area, where you can also find hotel accommodations if you choose to stay longer in this quaint part of the city. Though this part of the coast is famous for its dangerous shore breaks, an ocean pool lies at the southern end of the beach in a sheltered area safe for swimming. Lifeguards are on duty daily and on the Wedding Cake Island, rising out of the water about 400 m (1,300 ft) offshore. This small island forms a rocky reef that helps shelter the beach and creates an area safe for swimming Make Coogee Beach a part of your Sydney vacation plans using our Sydney day trip planning tool .

  • I'm a big fan of Coogee, it can get busy but rarely near the level that Bondi experiences. While the beach is lovely itself, I highly recommend Giles Baths, a natural rock-pool which is lovely to rela...  more »
  • I think this is the best beach for family, it's not as famous as Bondi but just as nice and less crowed, and they have a nature rock pool for kids if the ocean got a bit rough.  more »
  • Caught a bus here to complete the coastal walk. Beach volleyball, lifeguards, ample eateries and park areas, less crowded than Bondi too.  more »

  • Coogee Beach is a wonderful family beach, it is close to public transport, and shops, restaurants and pubs. It has public amenities and lovely grass foreshore overlooking the soft, fine white sand beach. Surf: Coogee has waves and currents, although it is uncommon for these to be large enough to trouble anyone with at least a medium swimming ability.
  • This beach has lots of shade and a nice picnic place. They also have a beach pool which has ocean water running through it so it's perfect for the kids. They also have a deep pool as well as a shallow pool. There's also plenty of eating places at the beach for lunch there.
  • One of the most beautiful beaches in Sydney, great views, and calm waters perfect for open water swim training. Just be mindful that this is usually a very busy beach.
  • Nice views to take pictures and wonderfull beaches. Its perfect destination for an evening walk or a place you can enjoy sunshine. Most people/maps/visitors information will be able to tell you how to find the path, it is not hard. Note : It gets really windy so be sure to bring a windbreaker or a jumper that can warm you
  • Very lively and one of the important beach of Sydney. This beach is very famous in youngsters. Every weekend this beach is completely pack, there is little reserve beside beach which is good for children for playing. There are few bars and pubs next to beach which is always on weekends. If you have good company of friends and family do visit this beach in night time.
