Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island

If you could visit only one beach in the Whitsundays, it most likely would be Whitehaven Beach. One of the most photographed beaches in Australia, 7 km (4.35 mi) of soft white-silica sand on Whitsunday Island meet ocean water featuring every shade of blue. Head for Hill Inlet on the northern end to watch the tide mix sand and sea into large blue-and-white swirls. Get an overhead perspective from Tongue Point. You can join boat tours to the beach, fly above it on a seaplane or helicopter, or travel here on your own and camp for the night on the beach's southern end. Using our custom trip planner, Whitsunday Island attractions like Whitehaven Beach can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. It's located in a preserved ecological park. You can't stay long there, because there's almost protection from the Sun, but it has to be like that, but the magic of the place would be compromised.

  • We are 3 days/2 nights to the Withsunday islands with the ' spank me '. Look fine ship, although there would be some more luxury. We came in the morning, as the first group to Whitehaven beach, and what was this beautifully. The beach yet completely empty/tight. Definitely worth it to go!!

  • The beach is so especial that reflections of water and sand are the true cognition of the place ... don't understand where the sea or you are on the sand without realising it ... very unique place and experience to do!

  • What an amazing location. We flew in on a Seaplane and had a picnic on the shore and swam around for a while then flew back to Hamilton Island again. Such a magical location and one I will remember so well. Definitely one of the most whitest cleanest beaches I have visited.
  • In all my travels, there’s nothing quite like the snaking estuary that crawls inland from Whitehaven beach. The almost pure silica sand is brilliant white which marries ideally with the pure blue water! Fly or boat in to enjoy a day on the sand and marvel at this incredible creation of nature
  • Beautiful place to vist. The water and sand is just amazing! Day tour was well worth it with a funny and organized crew, they really made the day.
  • Visited on the half day tour with cruise Whitsundays. The beach was great and relatively unspoilt considering how big of a tourist attraction it is. The sand is extremely fine meaning that in be used for exfoliation, also it gets everywhere. A very beautiful beach with excellent views and photo opportunities. Swimming in a stinger suit is recommended to avoid being stung by a jellyfish. Also ensure you bring you own food because unsurprisingly there are no shops and cafes on the beach.
  • Best place ever ever! You can arrive there just with a boat, big beach, the sands is one of the most whitest in all Australia. For swim there is not necessary any cover for the body.. I think.
