Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Take a break from the city and head to Seven Mile Beach and Fortescue Bay. Step off the beaten path and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Lark Distillery. Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). Next up on the itinerary: enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. When traveling from Melbourne in October, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Hobart: temperatures range from 20°C by day to 8°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Coles Bay.
