Set against the stark but scenic coastline of the Bass Strait--the body of water separating Victoria and Tasmania--Torquay is a prime location for surfing and beach life in general.
Step off the beaten path and head to Kennet River Koala Walk and Lorne Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Split Point Lighthouse and St Mary of the Angels. Step out of Torquay with an excursion to Eastern Beach Reserve in Geelong--about 34 minutes away. There's more to do: kick back and relax at Bells Beach and tour the pleasant surroundings at Anglesea Bike Park.
