Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
You'll get in some beach time at Greens Pool and Lowlands Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Albany's Historic Whaling Station and National Anzac Centre. Explore Albany's surroundings by going to Anvil Beach, Nullaki Peninsula (in Denmark), Cosy Corner Beach (in Kronkup) and Cheynes Beach (in Waychinicup National Park). There's more to do: take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap and Natural Bridge and admire the landmark architecture of The Church of Saint John the Evangelist.
