A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Palm Cove Beach and Trinity Beach. Take a break from the city and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Shaolin Junk Cruises. Go for a jaunt from Cairns to Palm Cove to see Hartley's Crocodile Adventures about 44 minutes away. Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Visit Burleigh Heads Beach and Burleigh Head National Park for some beach relaxation. Get in touch with nature at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and Kings Beach. Venture out of the city with trips to SunJet Simulations (in Mooloolaba) and Wolston Farmhouse (in Wacol). Next up on the itinerary: let little ones run wild at South Bank Parklands and take some stellar pictures from Mount Coot-tha Lookout.
