A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Relax by the water at Meelup Beach and Cowaramup Bay. Step out of the city life by going to Mammoth Cave and Lake Cave. When in Margaret River, make a side trip to see Jewel Cave in Augusta, approximately 34 minutes away. Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
You'll get in some beach time at Anvil Beach and Greens Pool. Discover out-of-the-way places like Cheynes Beach and Muttonbird Beach and Shelter Island. Get out of town with these interesting Albany side-trips: Lowlands Beach (in Lowlands) and Cosy Corner Beach (in Kronkup). And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Little Beach, explore the striking landscape at The Gap and Natural Bridge, and examine the collection at National Anzac Centre.
