A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Get in touch with nature at Meelup Beach and Cowaramup Bay. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Surfers Point and Redgate Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Margaret River side-trips: Augusta (Jewel Cave & Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse) and Ngilgi Cave (in Yallingup). Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Get outdoors at Little Beach and Anvil Beach. Discover out-of-the-way places like Greens Pool and The Church of Saint John the Evangelist. Change things up with these side-trips from Albany: Cosy Corner Beach (in Kronkup) and Cheynes Beach (in Waychinicup National Park). Next up on the itinerary: take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap and Natural Bridge and examine the collection at National Anzac Centre.

Esperance is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720km east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. Visiting Thistle Cove and Blue Haven Beach will get you outdoors. Step off the beaten path and head to Cape Le Grand National Park and Salmon Beach. And it doesn't end there: enjoy the sand and surf at Ten Mile Lagoon, tour the pleasant surroundings at Hellfire Bay, and steep yourself in history at Esperance Stonehenge.
