Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Launceston in April, with highs in Sydney at 26°C and lows at 17°C. A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.
Kids will enjoy Scuba & Snorkeling and Safaris. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Myall Beach and Four Mile Beach. Go for a jaunt from Port Douglas to Cow Bay to see Cow Bay Beach about 46 minutes away. There's still lots to do: admire nature's wide array of creatures at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and look for all kinds of wild species at Mossman Gorge.

You can do a combination of flight and shuttle from Sydney to Port Douglas in 7 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train, bus, and shuttle. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Sydney in April: high temperatures in Port Douglas hover around 34°C and lows are around 25°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Cairns.

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Attractions like Scuba & Snorkeling and Yorkeys Knob Beach make great kid-friendly stops. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Palm Cove Beach and Trinity Beach. Explore Cairns' surroundings by going to Australian Butterfly Sanctuary (in Kuranda) and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures (in Palm Cove). There's still lots to do: choose your vessel at Shaolin Junk Cruises, have some family-friendly fun at Cairns Kart Hire Track, pause for some serene contemplation at St Monica's Cathedral, and get outside with Aquatica.
