Start off your visit on the 9th (Mon): explore the activities along Lake Ainsworth, brush up on your military savvy at Ballina Naval & Maritime Museum, then explore and take pictures at Pat Morton Lookout, and finally stop by Truly Tea. Keep things going the next day: relax in the rural setting at The Farm Byron Bay, let the kids burn off some steam at Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens, then trek along Cape Byron Walking Track, and finally visit a coastal fixture at Cape Byron Lighthouse.

Getting from Melbourne to Byron Bay by combination of flight and bus takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Byron Bay in July: highs in Cairns hover around 30°C, while lows dip to 20°C.
