The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
Take a break from the city and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Territory Wildlife Park. Your inner history buff will appreciate Adelaide River War Cemetery and St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Darwin: Buley Rockhole (in Litchfield National Park) and Litchfield National Park (in Batchelor). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 11th (Tue) at Darwin Waterfront. Step out of the city life by going to Kings Beach and Maroochydore Beach. New Govardhana Australia and Queensland Art Gallery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Brisbane side-trips: Scuba & Snorkeling (in Mooloolaba), Maleny (Maleny Dairies & Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve) and Natural Bridge (in Springbrook). There's lots more to do: explore the wealth of natural beauty at Burleigh Head National Park, enjoy the sand and surf at Kurrawa Beach, explore and take pictures at Suncorp Stadium, and enjoy the sea views from Fingal Head Lighthouse.
