A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and Palm Cove Beach. Spend the 27th (Thu) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 28th (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Next up on the itinerary: have fun at Esplanade Lagoon Pool, hike along Esplanade Boardwalk, let the kids burn off some steam at Muddy's Playground, and take in the waterfront at The Jack Barnes Bicentennial Mangrove Boardwalk.

Helsinki, Finland to Cairns is an approximately 23-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of ferry and flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern European Time (EET) to Australian Eastern Standard Time (Queensland) (AEST) is 8 hours. Plan for much warmer temperatures traveling from Helsinki in December, with highs in Cairns at 36°C and lows at 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
