Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kick off your visit on the 26th (Sat): indulge your thirst for a good beer at Cascade Brewery and then enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 27th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Kingston Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Opossum Bay Beach, admire the landmark architecture of Richmond Gaol, then see the interesting displays at Mawson's Hut Replica Museum, and finally take a leisurely stroll along Constitution Dock.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Traveling from Sydney in January, things will get slightly colder in Hobart: highs are around 26°C and lows about 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Sun) early enough to drive to Coles Bay.

Coles Bay

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Get outdoors at Freycinet National Park and Freycinet Marine Farm. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Nature & Wildlife Tours and Honeymoon Bay. Go for a jaunt from Coles Bay to Bicheno to see East Coast Natureworld about 32 minutes away. There's more to do: walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout and enjoy the sea views from Cape Tourville Lighthouse.

Drive from Hobart to Coles Bay in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Launceston.
