Museum of Old and New Art, Berriedale

3.8
A large, privately owned art museum, Museum of Old and New Art represents the love child of Tasmanian millionaire David Walsh, who nicknamed it a "subversive Disneyland for adults." Built into the cliffside, the museum features a labyrinth of intentionally gloomy, windowless exhibition spaces displaying Walsh's collection of fun, quirky, and provocative art. Take a self-guided tour with an iPod--you'll receive one upon entrance--and begin your journey by walking down the spiral flight of stairs. The museum opened in 2011 after a renovation to the tune of $75 million. • Very interesting place. The architecture is very interesting and unique. Most of it is underground. Some of the art in different and thought provoking. Coffee shops are good and the grounds are beautiful. Set adjacent to a winery. I did not take the boat from Hobart, but others who did, recommended that
  • The coolest modern art museum I've been to in my entire life. Honestly might be worth the trip to Hobart on its own. Take the ferry out if you can, because it just feels like a weird and cool extension of the whole experience. The art is sure to impress, and the grounds outside make you feel like you're visiting a Bond villain lair.
