Lake Cave, Boranup

#1 of 37 in Parks in Margaret River Region
Lake Cave is renowned for the Suspended Table--a 4,535 kg (10,000 lb) column of calcite that hangs from the ceiling just a tiny bit above the lake. Inside the cave, you will find a tranquil lake that reflects the image of delicate formations, creating the effect of infinity mirror. Descend the 300 steps from the cavern entrance at your own pace and gaze up at towering karri trees and crystal formations. • Since 300 steps down from the ground level, this ancient cave is a natural wonder. Once down at the entrance, this is a relatively short cave with easy walking on the inside. The stalactites and stalagmites are where time virtually stands still. The guide was knowledgeable, easy to understand and friendly. One advice for the prospective visitors: please leave kids under 5 at home.
  • This is a must to visit cave for visitors to the Margaret River region. It is not just like any other cave around Western Australia. From the top, it is more like a mining pit. Visitors are required to climb down a very deep and steep flight of stairs to reach the entrance of the cave. You need to be quite fit and agile as the steps can get slippery during rainy season. Make sure you go to the toilet before going down to the cave since it is a long way down and back. Bring a small torch/flash light if possible. There would be many photo opportunities outside and inside the cave. Once inside, you will find a small 'river' which flows to the centre of the cave and forms an underground lake. The view inside is magnificent. It is the best cave of all the caves in WA. Once you have finished your tour in the cave, there is a small cafe near the reception to relax. If you only have limited time visiting the down south, just go to this cave.
