James St Cooking School is Brisbane’s premier cooking school – with its 12 year history – it is the best place to learn how to cook.Make James St Cooking School a part of your Brisbane vacation plans using our Brisbane trip itinerary app .
The small sized classes are broken into even smaller groups which are led by teams of professional chefs to ensure you gain optimum results in improving your cooking skills.
Cooking is about using all of your senses. That’s the reason it’s difficult to learn from television. You need to touch the food, feel its consistency, its heat, and smell the ingredients. You need to get involved, watch the food change its colour and consistency, get your hands dirty…do the doing…so you really learn.
And this is what James St Cooking School is all about. The idea is to give you the opportunity to work with domestic appliances in a professional environment.
There are classes for individuals or private groups and James St Cooking School also designs lessons for a wide range of corporate applications such as team building, client nights, product launches etc.
John and Joanne Meredith, both professional chefs, own the school located in James St, Fortitude Valley as well its growing number of satellite cooking schools in other locations. They and their team of professional chefs provide the training for the hands-on or demonstration classes. After the classes you sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labour with dinner or lunch and matched wines.
The business also incorporates professional off-site catering providing superb food in your own or other locations for corporate and social events such as dinners, boardroom lunches, social occasions such as weddings and private parties.

Had an Indian culinary enlightenment at cooking school last night (22nd of Jan) with John as our Chef and instructor. John was entertaining, knowledgeable and exceptionally enthusiastic with our small class. Being able to share in some of the preparations to create such devine dishes and also understanding the process and techniques in Indian cooking was amazing. Definitely going to try making some of these dishes at home. Never cooking Indian out of a glass jar again! On the Menu: Lamb rogan josh Sweet potato and cashew nut curry Savory Vegetable Pakora Cucumber raita Basamati Date chutney Thanks John. I had a great time and it changed my mind about cooking classes. I thought it would be like Masterchef where everyone had to cook for themselves which sounded super stressful. But we share the tasks togethet as a group and being guided was great! Looking forward to taking another class in the future.
A fantastic evening and host/chef Michael was terrific. Highly, highly recommended.
