Esplanade Lagoon Pool, Cairns

#1 of 10 in Fun & Games in Cairns
Esplanade Lagoon Pool offers one of the best places to beat the Cairns heat. Look out on the Barrier Reef and Trinity inlet from this 4,800 sq m (51,666 sq ft) saltwater lagoon. The lagoon water is saltwater from the inlet run through a filtration system. The sandy perimeter provides material for sand castles, and kids can wade in the lagoon's shallow water. To relax, recline on the timber deck beneath a shady tree. By using our Cairns day trip website , you can arrange your visit to Esplanade Lagoon Pool and other attractions in Cairns.

  • Loved this place! I wish my local council would produce something similar. I accidentally came across aqua Zumba and joined it... an overcast cold day ( 22 degrees Celsius) as described by locals. Mar...  more »

  • Nice view of the water at high tide, low tide it becomes a vast mud flat, which is interesting but not particularly pleasant to view. I wonder also about sandflies.  more »
  • Excellent facilities which seem to be the hub of activity in the CBD area. The life guards are on duty well into the evening which was great as the heat stops most heading out during the middle of the day. The lighting at night is spectacular and well worth the visit in the evening if your looking for a photo opportunity.
  • What a place to hangout. Its public salt water kids pool, the area is so lively with people are singing live or playing something, BBQs, people on outing, picnic with family or friends. The place is in the heart of city with many eating joints on the other side of the road, shopping area, Lots of attractions are also walking distance. Move little bit ahead, you have beautiful parks with kids play equipment, sports infrastructure along the ocean a perfect place to work out in open gym or a 2.5 km wooden pathway along the ocean. It's a scenic place and ideal to stay in near by hotel
  • Great place to spend a day with a great selection of shopping one side of the road. The other side of the road has a beautiful green lawned area with a nice pool for those beautiful warm days. Great views out across the water and the mountains. Only when the tide goes out do you see the marshland which unfortunately has no sand.
  • A great place to hangout with friends or family. It's free. The change room/ toilets are well maintained. Free BBQ's all around. Plenty of shade. And the lagoon itself is quite large, with shallow or deep sections, and a mini beach under canopy. It's a fantastic addition to the Cairns foreshore which was always basically mud.
  • Great location for a family picnic. Very close to the Night market as well. Beautiful photos can be taken during twilight. Though i could not swim in the lagoon, the kids seemed to have a great time!!!
