The mint looks incredible inside. Very modern and new. Many elements give the museum a unique look including the staircase with tens of thousands of coins used to make it! The factory observation doesn't have very much to show. A great collection of Australians history. The gift shop has some very special items.
Review Context: Family of 4 with 2 adults in early 40s and 2 girls aged 8 and 6 from Sydney. Australian Day long weekend in Canberra. We visited the Mint after lunch having spent the morning at the National Australian Museum. This was our first visit and didn't have many preconceived ideas of what to expect but ended up having a great time. The Mint has free entry which is a bonus as very few things are free these days. Our girls were old enough to get right into the activity books that we were given upon entry. They were really excited to look through the mint to find answers to the 15 or so questions in the book, coming across some weird and wonderful facts about the coins that we use everyday. The centre is clean, bright and easy to get around. There are toilet facilities with change table and a cafe with ample seating. You can pick up a souvenir $1 coin pressed in front of your eyes (for $3). So if you have a spare couple of hours and have inquisitive kids, i would recommend the Mint to entertain the kids.
