Ocean Safari, Cape Tribulation

Ocean Safari offers an exhilarating ride to snorkel the pristine untouched Great Barrier Reef off the Daintree Coast at Cape Tribulation. This half day eco tour visits two different snorkel destinations, each with an extraordinary array of marine life and coral species. After a fast 25 minute ride, you are ready to snorkel two fabulous locations at Mackay and Undine Reefs. On most days, you can snorkel alongside sea turtles, which are found in abundance swimming over reefs full of colourful coral, along with myriads of tropical fish, eagle rays, giant clams and starfish.

The tour begins at Cape Tribulation beach where you board the vessel bound for the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef. The Ocean Safari vessel takes a maximum of 25 passengers allowing guests to experience tropical paradise and the pleasure of a small group. The vessel is based on the original design of a rescue craft and is a rigid inflatable boat driven by 700hp engines. The experienced Skipper and Eco Host ensure the trip is filled with fun and appreciation of the Great Barrier Reef and the coastal rainforest of the Daintree, two world heritage areas side by side.

The Ocean Safari check in office is also home to Safari Lodge. Situated just 400 metres from the beach, Safari Lodge offers both Safari Huts and camp sites in the tropical Cape Tribulation rainforest and is the perfect base for exploring this famous region. Far away from the stresses of city life, the Safari Lodge offers comfortable and affordable accommodation and a range of facilities in the tropical rainforest including a swimming pool, fully equipped camp kitchen, amenities block with toilets and showers and laundry. Sleep in the jungle and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest at night, or rise early to experience the sunrise over beautiful Myall beach only minutes away.

Also located onsite, the Turtle Rock Cafe offers fresh wholesome food, great coffee and outdoor dining, with a casual friendly atmosphere. With a menu offering healthy sandwiches and wraps, burgers, cakes, muffins and delicious meals made to order. The Turtle Rock Cafe showcases the wide variety of delicious produce the Tropical North Queensland region has to offer. Using Malanda milk, farm fresh eggs and cheese from the Southern Tablelands, Mareeba grown coffee and locally grown exotic fruits, you can experience the best of North Queensland produce. You are welcome to order lunch from the boat and have it waiting for you to enjoy under the rainforest canopy on your return.

  • Great tour, quick journey out to the Reef on a small, quick boat (less people and great if you get sea sick). Great skipper and reef guide and reefs were beautiful.  more »

  • We had a great snorkeling experience with this tour group. We went on their half day snorkel/dive to a cay in the Great Barrier Reef. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and competent. A fast zodiac, covered but open, no toilet. The group was small (16, I think) and we had plenty of time in the water. Best of all, there was plenty to see. The snorkel sites at this cay were great, lots of diversity, many beautiful coral, fish, birds, etc. A bare-bones operation and an exceptional adventure! But you have to get to Cape Tribulation, about 150km north of Cairns in the northern part of Daintree NP.
  • Loved it! Funny crew. Very helpful instructors. Great locations. And most importantly small boat ride, no time to get sea sick while still enjoying the Great Barrier Reef.
