Currie Lighthouse, Currie

#9 of 16 in Things to do in King Island
If you love golf and you live in the world you'll have heard about the exciting new developments on King Island in Tasmania. Two world class golf courses opened on October 30th 2015 and will join the existing 9 hole golf course in Currie to make King Island one of the most desirable and certainly the hottest golf destination in world travel.

Cape Wickham was previously known as the site of Australia's tallest lighthouse but is predicted by many to become one of the most amazing and spectacular links golf courses in Australia, perhaps even the world. This course is now open for bookings and all 18 holes are ready to play.

With a population of less than 1500 people King Islanders must really love their golf as they have another world class golf course designed and built by Graeme Grant opening 9 holes in October 2015 with the other 9 well on their way to construction.

If this wasn't enough to draw golfers to this Bass Strait island then perhaps the opportunity to play with the friendly and welcoming locals on the long-standing 9 hole course in Currie may prove a clincher.

Of course King Island has much more to offer than just golf but for the moment the empty beaches, wildlife, cheese, beef and seafood have to take a back seat while golf steals all the headlines.

  • While the lighthouse isn't as renowned as the one at Wickham, it's still a spectacular location with great views of the fishing harbour, down the coast and an excellent little museum.
  • Cool breeze on a hot summer day and great 360 degree views.
