Seventy-Five Mile Beach, Fraser Island

4.8
#1 of 6 in Beaches in Fraser Coast
The name says it all at Seventy-Five Mile Beach, where the golden sand stretches for miles along the coast. The beach is wide enough for small charter planes to land and for four-wheel drive vehicles to approach the edge of the water. SUVs, cars, and motorbikes drive along this sandy strip dodging the tides and skidding along the top of the fresh, wet sand. Keep your eyes open for wildlife along the shores: You may see mutton birds or a fox nipping at fish who've gotten too close to the shore. • The beach is flat and almost level, so great for skim boards, poor for swimming (also we were warned about sharks). The water makes the sand a hard surface, so cars can drive on it with no problems (s...  more »
  • The seventy-five mile beach combines the attractions on the East Coast (Maheno wreck, Eli Creek, champagne pools, Indian head,...). It is an official road, d. H. can be used only with registered cars and driver's license. In the meantime not recommended there collection of holiday houses, that is Baden residential village and a stop with a small shop, etc. due to the strong currents and sharks behind/on the dunes. At high tide wait if necessary at (if the waves get too far) before you continue (unless you want to distribute all the salt water on the underbody of the car). In between, there is also fresh water rivers/-rinnsale that find their way into the sea. Here, some caution is required (the difference between "Road" and the trickle can be deceiving). Definitely only with 4WD. At dusk, we saw dingoes. In any case a super experience.

  • The trip was really worth to Fraser Island. We have had a super day. The additional flight with takeoff and landing on the beach was nervenkizzelnd. The good and interesting leadership by David completed the whole trip. Fraser Island is one of the highlights of our trip to Australia.
