St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Geraldton

4.5
The Catholic Diocese of Geraldton is undertaking a major project to restore, conserve and enhance the iconic, heritage listed St Francis Xavier Cathedral and its precinct. In addition to the Cathedral works, the project includes plans for a Monsignor Hawes Heritage Centre and a Midwest Flower Garden.

2016 marked the centenary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Cathedral and in 2018 it will be 100 years since the opening of the first stage. It is anticipated that this project will be completed in time to celebrate these milestones.

Progress of the Project:

The exterior refurbishment of the Cathedral was completed in 2015 and the Monsignor Hawes Heritage Centre was officially opened by the Premier Colin Barnett on Saturday 3rd September 2016. It is expected that the last stages of the project, which involve the refurbishment of the interior of the Cathedral and the completion of the cathedral landscaping and the Midwest Flower Garden will be completed in 2017.

  • I spend a lot of my time at this special place. I recommend you have a bit of quiet time here.
  • How amazing is this place you walk up the steps and have a look at it and then you walk in the door and as rows in the windows lead light windows on well they have a terrific organ the photos can't say it enough but if you get a chance come up and have a look at this Cathedral also in the back corner we went down the stairs and there's a little area underneath as well she's quite nice to have a look at I would give it a 10 for the staff and the people that are showing you around they were pleasant and polite they explained so much detail that it was nice to listen to them if you get a chance come to the cathedral from mwh
