Dog On The Tucker Box, Gundagai

3.1
#1 of 9 in Things to do in Gundagai
For over 80 years Dog On The Tucker Box, a historical monument and tourist attraction, has been a favorite resting place for travelers from around the world. Erected in 1926, the monument was sculpted by stonemason Frank Rusconi as a tribute to early European pioneers who settled this region. Inspired by a bullock driver’s poem, which celebrates the life of an allegorical driver’s dog that loyally guarded the man’s lunch box, the dog monument features a wishing well at its base, set up to collect money for a local hospital. Souvenirs of the famous dog can be purchased at a small shop nearby. • A little off the main highway on the left heading north. Could be clearer signposting. There is a neat koala statue that is well worth a mention; photo opportunity for children and other visitors. Info shop well stocked with all manner of desirable curiosities and souvenirs; well worth a visit. Friendly staff.
  • Definitely worth a visit with easy access on and off the highway. The water feature could do with a good make over.
  • Cool little place to stop when on the road. Would be good for a few more food options but over all good place for a quick stop.
  • The best thing about this is the historic Dog on Tuckerbox statue... if you are Australian and have ever owned a workin dog, but the cafe , the coffee , and the toilets ... give em all a miss. Cob
  • Good atmosphere, great out door seating but in this area there is a big healthy eating option next door, I would preference to support a small business like this if next time my chicken burger wasn't as dry as beef jerky. Such a shame, please review this item .
