Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery, Launceston

#1 of 10 in Museums in Launceston
One of the largest museums not located in a capital city, Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery features wonderful collections of colonial art and Tasmanian history. The museum is located on two sites. The renovated warehouse at Inveresk Railyards features zoology collections and technology collection, as well as impressive colonial paintings. Its highlights are its working planetarium and displays with airplanes and railway workshops. For more artistic delights, visit the other location, at the Victorian-style Royal Park building, where traditional and contemporary art collections are displayed It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and many more Launceston attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Launceston day trip planner.

  • Although a very old fashion layout and lacking atmosphere some of the art exhibits are very good. Go and see the other half of the qvmag in Invermay which is a nice walk along the river levy.  more »

  • Great place to take the kids to learn. Our little ones loved the interactive displays. Going through the tram museum. There were a little disappointed the tram was not running the day they went. But it does give another reason to go back. Seems to have become a regular activity to attend in the school holidays
  • Have seen parts of the museum. Very good. More to see. This time for the spider display. Glad I am not scared of them. Unlike a couple of people I know.
  • Took the kids here to see Spider expo... they enjoyed it and loved looking around the rest of the Museum. There was plenty for them to look at and lots of interactive stuff to explore! I liked the rail stuff and the old history of the site preserved like a time capsule out the back :)
  • Well worth a visit. But the food shop is cool in temperature I guess because its inside but on either side of a thorough fair to the rest of the museum. Had good food n friendly
  • Free family fun and activities good for school holidays. We spent 2hr there with 4kids no problem. Coffee and cafe great, sit inside a tram carriage.
