Carrick Hill, Mitcham

#3 of 17 in Historic Sites in Adelaide
See a large collection of drawings, sculptures, antiques, and paintings at historic Carrick Hill, which once served as home to Sir Edward Hayward, a prominent local businessman. Designed to resemble an English manor, the house was completed in 1939. Today, the property is one of few such period sites in Australia to have survived virtually unchanged and with most of its original furnishings still in place. Original owners fitted the house with an impressive inner staircase, which they brought all the way from Europe, where they spent a year-long honeymoon. Today, the property hosts regular themed art and social history exhibitions, as well as other cultural events. With our online itinerary creator, Adelaide attractions like Carrick Hill can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Great to step back in time and experience some of the grandeur of not so long ago. Beautiful gardens and along with the other activities on today made it a great day out. The staff here were great as well.
  • Beautiful area for sitting around on grass outside. Nice views and the Cafe is lovely. The storybook trail is not really well kept with the rest of the place and its a challenge with a stroller. Overall place is lovely though. Free entry to gardens and great place to relax
