Umpherston Sinkhole, Mount Gambier

Once a limestone cave, Umpherston Sinkhole was created when the cave ceiling collapsed. The sunken earth proved a perfect place for growing lush greenery. Thick vines cascade over the sinkhole's edge while the center is landscaped with grasses and palms. Take a walk through the garden for an otherworldly look beneath the green curtains and between the limestone rocks. • Very unique little experience. Walk down into the sinkhole and enjoy the flowers and the very regular sightings of possums. Plan 15-20min although you can spend much more time there as they have a shaded BBQ area.
  • Great place to make a quick visit or spend some time with a picnic. It was lovely and cool down in the sinkhole on a hot day. Plenty of people there relaxing and reading a book on the lawn. The view from the bottom is just as impressive as the view from the top.
