Dudley Cellar Door, Penneshaw
Situated at a precipice of a cliff overlooking the water, the name of Dudley Cellar Door is an ironic one. Check out the locally made artisan goods, natural fiber and wool clothing, as well as a supply of local vines in the cellar's shop. End your visit by tasting the wines on the balcony overlooking the sea with a glass of crisp Riesling and a gourmet pizza. Dudley Cellar Door Reviews
Stopped in here on the way back from Cape Willoughby. Our 2 boys had a hot chocolate while we (mum & dad) tasted wine. On a sunny day it was great to look out over the ocean. Next time, we will visit ... more »
Friendly service and unbeatable location. Do yourself a favor and get here, and make sure you don’t run out of time like we did! more »
Unfortunately we came 37min before closing, and though cellar professes to be opened till 17:00, cellar door staff were 100% into cleaning mode. I was intent on buying wine, especially Riesling as I cook quite a bit of Asian food. I tried one wine, with the gentleman serving me, having heard the above, declared that he knows exactly what I would like if I cook Asian flavours. He disappeared to where, I thought, this mystery wine was. He never reappeared, and I was the only one tasting in the whole cellar door. Whilst my parents bought some expensive $8 honey, and it was put through the till no problem of course, by the lady busy rinsing the glasses and bottles and sticking them in dishwasher, showing zero interest in us customers (not a smile!), mum noticed that the gentleman serving me, for whom I was still waiting, already put rubber gloves on and marched off to clean the toilet. I waited, said, to not very friendly glass washing lady, "i am waiting for your colleague" - no reaction. By now it was awkward, we loitered around waiting, parents even sat down it took so long, we didn't know what to do wait more or just leave? No interest was shown to see if I want to buy at least the wine that I did get to taste (and liked). The guy who kicked off my tasting never returned. We felt very unwanted there, asked a question about ferry and left without buying (not for want of trying). I appreciate about 7 lots of cruise ship buses they had there that day, but then advertise that you close at 4pm and clean away for the next hour, not treat someone who drove for 113km to make it to your door in time, keen to try and buy, in this way! The view is great, the cellar door a bit of a shed compared to cellar doors one is used to elsewhere in Australia or abroad, service in our case, poor. Please also note that the road leading to the cellar door shed is not surfaced, but a dirt/ground road so make sure you have suitable vehicle.
Fabulous location. Scrumptious chorizo pizza. Delicious Porky Flat Shiraz. All on a sunny day overlooking Backstairs Passage between KI and the ‘big’ island. Perfection.
