Hyde Park Perth, Perth

4.5
#4 of 24 in Parks in Perth
Enjoy the shaded pathways of Hyde Park Perth, where you can jog, rollerblade, bike, picnic, or simply enjoy a few quiet moments with a good book and a cup of coffee. European settlers turned this swampy zone into a public park in 1897, creating an urban green space that still plays an important social and ecological role. The park hosts frequent music festivals and live performances, and is a popular venue for weddings and family photographs. Also notable for its mature trees, the area is lined with figs, pines, jacarandas, cedars, and several indigenous eucalyptuses, some of which are over a century old. Two lakes located within the park attract a wide variety of birdlife, which includes ducks, coots, pelicans, and swans. To visit Hyde Park Perth on your trip to Perth, use our Perth trip planner.

  • Having been unaware Hyde Park was within walking distance of our accommodation we were happy to find a lovely lake surrounded by so many mature trees close by. Obviously it is well used by the locals ...  more »
  • This is a lovely park to walk around and maybe enjoy a picnic here. Two lakes provide homes for water birds as well as ensuring a pretty backdrop for you Sunday sojourn.  more »
  • We were there on a weekday afternoon and the weather was great. There wasn't many people at the park. Overall it was a nice little walk after lunch. I would recommend this park if you have time to spa...  more »

  • As a tourist it was very nice with all the trees and waterbirds. Would like to have more information on the different trees around! The Jacaranda... How does that look? Beautiful kept lawns!
  • A nice large park with lots of lovely trees, couple of ponds with water birds, lots of grassed areas to simply lounge or let the kids safely play and run about. There's a long enough walking track around the ponds. Overall, a superbly maintained and lovely place to be in. Finding a place to park your car on holidays might be a bit of a problem; not as much due a lack of parking space but more due the crowd you'd find there.
  • Went here for my daughter's 1st birthday party. Booked a gazebo. Was good. Highly recommend.
  • I’ve been to Hyde Park a couple of times. This time we decided to do an evening barbecue here. The sun was setting on a very cold evening and the wind was howling. The trees were bending to the will of the wind and a very few people were there in the park. It could have very well been a set of a horror film. Very surreal and eerie experience which we really enjoyed. Nature can be many things and give different experiences depending upon what’s the weather and when you visit.
  • Fantastic place for a walk with the family. Loads of huge trees and shade. The Grove was planted in the late 1800's. So there are some very old, and very large trees. They have some very interesting plants, and kids who enjoy nature, might marvel at some of the huge root systems of trees, and enjoy finding a variety of seed pods lying around. Great variety of play options for kids. Some of the leaf litter is thorny, so I would advise kids to wear shoes. There are a few little lakes as well, so kids definitely need adult supervision.
