The ornate, attractive exterior of St. George's Cathedral conceals an equally lavish interior that gives the whole building an impressive visual aesthetic. The cathedral was constructed in 1888, with the building designed in the Gothic Revival style. After the year 2005, the cathedral underwent an extensive restoration that saw most of the building completely renovated. St. George's Cathedral Reviews
The cathedral is lovely of course but the best time to visit is definitely during December when it's light up with beautiful light display. It's really popular with families. more »

The cathedral was built with the work of the inmates and was made entirely from handmade bricks. The project was entrusted in 1877 to the architect Edmund Blacket and it took 11 years before the work was completed with the consecration of the cathedral on November 15, 1888. Blacket failed to see it finished and the entire building, built on the ashes of the previous Church of St. George, was entirely financed by private donations. In 1919, at the behest of the architect Riley, a memorial was erected to the fallen soldiers during the First World War. In 1932 the bell tower was built but Nal 1968 was destroyed by an earthquake and the church needed reconstruction and restoration works for several years. In 2011 in front of the cathedral was unveiled the dramatic sculpture of Ascalon which represents the spear used by St. George to kill the Dragon. St. George's Cathedral re-lives in the Gothic tradition without it being gloomy and the presence of an imposing reed organ illuminated by the colours of the mosaic embedded in the frontal rosette. Guests visiting Perth are open daily from 7.30 to 17.00.
