  • We did the tour from Port Arthur. Lots of history and very interesting. A bit creepy too!
  • Isle of the Dead, or Dead Island as it was historically referred to, is the small and extremely lonely island located across Mason Cove harbour at Port Arthur. It is called Isle of the Dead because it is the final resting place for some 1500 of Port Arthur's convicts and about 500 others including Port Arthur Surgeon George Robertson, the Chaplain Rev George Eastman, officers and soldiers, and their wives and children who died and are buried there. While there's not much to be seen on Isle of the Dead today, the historical photos included here show what the Island and its cemetery looked like some 100 years ago.
