Richmond Bridge, Richmond

4.6
The country's oldest bridge still in use, Richmond Bridge remains a testament to Tasmania's forced migration heritage. The sandstone arched structure was built by convicts between 1823 and 1825. An unsolved murder marked the early bridge's history, when a notorious prison guard fell asleep drunk on the bridge and was pushed off its edge by presumably one or more of the prisoners. Pack some snacks for a picnic on the grassy riverbank underneath this national heritage site.
