Goat Island, Sydney
Once an important source of sandstone used in the construction of many of Sydney’s landmark buildings, the rocky Goat Island is now one of the city’s main tourist attractions. This island, located just northwest of the central business district, also served as a quarry, convict stockade, explosives store, police and fire station, and a film set. Today, the island is part of the Sydney Harbor National Park, which can be visited on one of many regular group tours. Choose a heritage tour of this historic site to see gunpowder stores built by convict labor, or join a night visit to explore the island’s colorful and often grim past. Keep in mind that advanced booking is essential to participate in these walking tours. Goat Island is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Sydney Edition.
Goat Island Reviews
シドニー港の真ん中にある静かな国立公園です。島に着陸するための許可が必要なので、フェリーを利用しながら観察することがより実際的です。 more »It is quietly located in the middle of Sydney Harbour National Park. Since permission to land on the island is required to observe while using the ferry is more practical.
As a person who loves Sydney’s colonial history and our colonial architecture, I am mortally ashamed that I didn’t realise the significance of this heritage site until a few days ago. It was establish... more »
Goat Island is one of Sydney Harbour's collection of Islands. The Island has a Convict heritage, there was a shipbuilding industry and the first Water Police Stations. The best way to explore the Island is to join a National Parks Heritage Tour.
We did Goat Island for New Year's Eve. Unfortunately it rained most of the night, and nothing was arranged in advance to make sure everyone would be comfortable. Despite us bringing umbrellas and raincoats, there was NO cover and you are out in the elements on a small sloping patch of grass with water running down amongst tons of people smoking. If you're a non smoker like us, you will be miserable having to smell the smoke all night. In addition, we were soaking wet the entire night. The ferry is not large enough for all the people and many had to stand up. Once the ferry arrives, people run to claim their teeny tiny spot on the island, which is too small for all the people they pack in. The location is great, although you are not on the side with the waterfall fireworks off the bridge. We just thought the whole venue was a rip off, with nothing done to make sure people would be comfortable with the bad weather. We didn't get home until 4am, as they leave the roads blocked in the city, making it impossible for uber drivers to come and get us. We paid close to $600 for 3 people, which included a ferry ride and a spot on the wet grass on the island. That's it. Was it worth it? NO. Better to watch at home in comfort on tv.......
