St George Openair Cinema, Sydney

4.4
#17 of 71 in Fun & Games in Sydney
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more scenic location for watching a movie than the St George Openair Cinema. Situated on the small peninsula that forms the eastern end of Farm's Cove, the theater features Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Sydney Harbour Opera House as a backdrop behind its large screen. The theater shows blockbusters, and you should try to buy tickets as far in advance as possible. The box office releases extra tickets at 6:30 p.m. the day of a screening, but you'll want to line up early for these. Showings are rain or shine, so check the weather and dress accordingly. • Stunning night. Well organized food / wine restaurants with fast service. St George staff so friendly & assisted us in securing great seats. Viewing cinema with a backdrop of Sydney Harbour. Sensational!
  • Great evening out under the stars - seats have slightly improved on previous years offering an attempt to provide some padding. Not a fan of free for all idea of writing names on "reserved " seats - lots of good seats left empty forcing people to are actually there to sit in less suitable seats at the top of the stairs. Tickets seats - or requiring people to actually occupy the seats would be a much more efficient and appropriate system. Not sure why given the cost of the tickets and the “sponsors” signage everywhere they then choose to subject everyone to mindless adverts for the first 20 plus minutes – I’m rather pleased given the stupidity of the St George’s Bank adverts that if they reflect that bank I don/t bank with them.
