Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island

If you could visit only one beach in the Whitsundays, it most likely would be Whitehaven Beach. One of the most photographed beaches in Australia, 7 km (4.35 mi) of soft white-silica sand on Whitsunday Island meet ocean water featuring every shade of blue. Head for Hill Inlet on the northern end to watch the tide mix sand and sea into large blue-and-white swirls. Get an overhead perspective from Tongue Point. You can join boat tours to the beach, fly above it on a seaplane or helicopter, or travel here on your own and camp for the night on the beach's southern end. Using our custom trip planner, Whitsunday Island attractions like Whitehaven Beach can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Whitehaven Beach is a tropical paradise where photos just don't do it justice. The sand is the whitest I have ever seen and the water is turquoise. It sounds like a place that you only see in movies o...  more »

  • As the name suggest this was heaven on earth!! I can't believe something like this exist.. So beautiful, so serene. The sand here was as soft and as white as talcum powder.. The water was so clear and clean, words are less to describe the beauty of this place.. I can just say its a must visit for anyone who is planning to visit Australia!! By far the most beautiful beach I have ever come across.. Literal paradise..!
  • What an amazing location. We flew in on a Seaplane and had a picnic on the shore and swam around for a while then flew back to Hamilton Island again. Such a magical location and one I will remember so well. Definitely one of the most whitest cleanest beaches I have visited.
  • Still my most memorable beach ever, icing powder consistency sand, making for constantly shifting patterns off the beach, no man-made intrusions... Paradise. If able, yacht there the evening before, anchor on the other side of the island, and hike over to the beach early morning.
  • Ooooooo it's good! And actually about the only place I can think of that isn't a crushing disappointment when you visit as all the doctored magazine pics make it look better than it is in real life. Good examples of this would be the Grand Canyon, Uluru, any pic of Manhattan... the list goes on. Visit this place and be prepared to be swept away by its beauty. Simply stunning
  • In all my travels, there’s nothing quite like the snaking estuary that crawls inland from Whitehaven beach. The almost pure silica sand is brilliant white which marries ideally with the pure blue water! Fly or boat in to enjoy a day on the sand and marvel at this incredible creation of nature
