A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Sun): take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in nature's colorful creations at Botanical Gardens, then hike along Esplanade Boardwalk, and then have fun at Esplanade Lagoon Pool.

Cape Tribulation

A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
On the 2nd (Tue), trek along Dubuji Boardwalk, then explore and take pictures at Marrdja Botanical Walk, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Myall Beach.

Drive from Cairns to Cape Tribulation in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In July, daily temperatures in Cape Tribulation can reach 78°F, while at night they dip to 64°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Port Douglas.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
On the 5th (Fri), walk around Roma Street Parkland and then let the kids burn off some steam at South Bank Parklands. Here are some ideas for day two: get great views at Mount Coot-tha Lookout, then identify plant and animal life at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nepalese Pagoda.
