Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Museum of Old and New Art and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery will appeal to museum buffs. Visit Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and May Queen for their historical value. When in Hobart, make a side trip to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, approximately 30 minutes away. There's lots more to do: get to know the fascinating history of Battery Point Sculpture Trail, contemplate the long history of Hobart Convict Penitentiary, admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In June, Hobart is little chillier than Sydney - with highs of 15°C and lows of 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Port Arthur.
