Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Shop till you drop at Salamanca Market and Nutpatch. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Museum of Old and New Art and Hobart Convict Penitentiary. Go for a jaunt from Hobart to Brighton to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary about 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Kingston Beach, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. David's Cathedral, take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Traveling from Melbourne in February, expect nights in Hobart to be about the same, around 14°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 26°C.
