Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Puddleduck Vineyard. There's lots more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Seven Mile Beach, look for gifts at The Wicked Cheese Co., wander the streets of North Hobart, and snap pictures at Tasman Bridge.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. In April in Hobart, expect temperatures between 21°C during the day and 9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Mon) early enough to drive to Coles Bay.
