The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Wangi Falls and Buley Rockhole. Do some cultural sightseeing at Adelaide River War Cemetery and St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral. Change things up with these side-trips from Darwin: Litchfield National Park (in Batchelor), Florence Falls (in Litchfield National Park) and Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve (in Humpty Doo). Spend the 25th (Sat) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Spend the 30th (Thu) exploring nature at Charles Darwin National Park. Next up on the itinerary: kick back and relax at Mindil Beach, identify plant and animal life at Casuarina Coastal Reserve, see the interesting displays at 1934 Qantas Hangar, and tour the water at your own pace with Spirit of Darwin.

Expect a daytime high around 37°C in August, and nighttime lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
