A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.
Attractions like Daintree Discovery Centre and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures make great kid-friendly stops. Head to Des Spencer Galleries and Ngarru Galleryfor plenty of shopping. Step out of Port Douglas with an excursion to Walu Wugirriga Lookout in Cow Bay--about 44 minutes away. Spend the 11th (Thu) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Village Gallery and Doongal Aboriginal Art. Step out of the city life by going to Scuba & Snorkeling and Esplanade Boardwalk. Step out of Cairns with an excursion to Palm Cove Beach in Palm Cove--about 32 minutes away. Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Fri): identify plant and animal life at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, admire the masterpieces at Gallery of Modern Art, and then kick back and relax at Moffat Beach. On your second day here, stop by Noosa Chocolate Factory, admire the masterpieces at Queensland Art Gallery, and then examine the collection at Queensland Museum & Sciencentre.
