Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kick off your visit on the 6th (Thu): identify plant and animal life at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, then examine the collection at Mona, then enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington. Here are some ideas for day two: step off the mainland to explore Macquarie Island, then contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, and then kick back and relax at Long Beach.

Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sat): learn about winemaking at Gala Estate Vineyard, identify plant and animal life at Friendly Beaches, and then walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout. On your second day here, enjoy the sand and surf at Honeymoon Bay, take a leisurely stroll along Coles Bay Jetty, then explore and take pictures at Melshell Oysters, and finally snap pictures at Spiky Bridge.
