Start off your visit on the 6th (Tue): explore the galleries of Port Arthur Historic Site, then steep yourself in history at Australian Convict Sites, and then make a trip to Remarkable Cave.

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Museum of Old and New Art and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and Hobart Convict Penitentiary. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: go for a walk through Battery Point Sculpture Trail, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Cascade Brewery, and admire the masterpieces at Lady Franklin Gallery.

Traveling by car from Port Arthur to Hobart takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August in Hobart, expect temperatures between 56°F during the day and 39°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Launceston.
