Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
On the 19th (Mon), steep yourself in history at Entally Estate, then look for gifts at Gourlay's Sweet Shop, and then make a trip to The Town Clock. Here are some ideas for day two: identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve, then steep yourself in history at Woolmers Estate, and then stroll through City Park.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Gala Estate Vineyard and Cape Tourville Lighthouse. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Wineglass Bay Lookout and Friendly Beaches. Spend the 24th (Sat) exploring nature at Freycinet National Park. There's still lots to do: admire all the interesting features of Coles Bay Jetty, kick back and relax at Honeymoon Bay, and relax in the rural setting at Freycinet Marine Farm.

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Visit Seven Mile Beach and Bellerive Beach for some beach relaxation. Escape the urban bustle at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Long Beach. There's lots more to do: examine the collection at Mona, buy something for everyone on your list at Cat and Fiddle Arcade, contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, and head off the coast to Macquarie Island.

Getting from Port Arthur to Hobart by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. In November in Hobart, expect temperatures between 22°C during the day and 11°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
