Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Take a break from the city and head to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Kingston Beach. Museum of Old and New Art and Cascade Brewery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. On the 1st (Thu), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. Perth to Hobart is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 2 hours traveling from Perth to Hobart. Traveling from Perth in September, expect nights in Hobart to be about the same, around 7°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Fri) so you can drive to Port Arthur.
