Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Explore hidden gems such as The Tamar Valley and Sharmans Wines. Take a break from the city and head to Cataract Gorge Reserve and Narawntapu National Park. Take a break from Launceston with a short trip to John Temple Gallery in Westbury, about 42 minutes away. There's lots more to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Lilydale Falls, browse the exhibits of Franklin House, contemplate the long history of Entally House, and get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports.

To see photos, traveler tips, maps, and other tourist information, refer to the Launceston online journey maker .

Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Traveling from Sydney in September, expect Launceston to be a bit cooler, temps between 17°C and 4°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Thu) so you can go by car to St Helens.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Friendly Beaches and Nature & Wildlife Tours. Visiting Freycinet National Park and East Coast Natureworld will get you outdoors. Change things up with a short trip to Melshell Oyster Shack in Dolphin Sands (about 48 minutes away). There's more to do: learn about winemaking at Devil's Corner Cellar Door.

To see where to stay, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, use the Coles Bay online tour planner .

You can drive from St Helens to Coles Bay in 1.5 hours. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Mon) so you can go by car to Hobart.

Hobart

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Escape the urban bustle at Seven Mile Beach and Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to The Neck and Mount Nelson Lookout. Change things up with these side-trips from Hobart: Russell Falls (in Mount Field National Park), Pulpit Rock Lookout (in New Norfolk) and Tessellated Pavement (in Eaglehawk Neck). And it doesn't end there: identify plant and animal life at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, and buy something for everyone on your list at Cat and Fiddle Arcade.

Plan my Hobart trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

Getting from Coles Bay to Hobart by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi and bus. October in Hobart sees daily highs of 20°C and lows of 9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Thu) to allow time to travel back home.
