A city of towering skyscrapers, sandy beaches, and tree-lined streets, Gold Coast has an unpretentious air complemented by a citywide focus on sports and the arts.
You'll get in some beach time at Burleigh Head National Park and Belongil Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kirra Beach and Kurrawa Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Gold Coast side-trips: Lennox Head Beach (in Lennox Head) and Stand-Up Paddleboarding (in Byron Bay). Spend the 24th (Wed) exploring nature at Natural Bridge. It doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Tugun Beach.

Brisbane to Gold Coast is an approximately 1-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or take a train. October in Gold Coast sees daily highs of 29°C and lows of 18°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Thu) early enough to travel to Hobart.

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kick off your visit on the 26th (Fri): admire the landmark architecture of Richmond Gaol, enjoy the sand and surf at Seven Mile Beach, then see the interesting displays at Mawson's Hut Replica Museum, and finally take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington. Keep things going the next day: sample the tasty concoctions at Cascade Brewery, then examine the collection at Mona, and then take a leisurely stroll along Constitution Dock.

You can fly from Gold Coast to Hobart in 6 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Gold Coast in October, things will get a bit cooler in Hobart: highs are around 20°C and lows about 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Sat) so you can drive to Coles Bay.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Craigie Knowe Vineyard and Gala Estate Vineyard. Take a break from the city and head to Dolphin & Whale Watching and Friendly Beaches. Get out of town with these interesting Coles Bay side-trips: Melshell Oysters (in Swansea) and East Coast Natureworld (in Bicheno).
